A printer is a peripheral device, which used to produce a text/graphic of documents stored in electronically in a computer form, Printers usually uses paper or transparencies to produce text/graphic form of. Printers are primarily used as local peripherals, and are attached by a serial cable or USB cable to a computer, which works as a document source. There are other types of printers which are as network printers, have built-in network interfaces, usually wireless and/or Ethernet based, and can serve as a hard copy tool for any user on the network.

Printers can be classified as Toner-based printers, Liquid inkjet printers, Solid ink printers and Dye-sublimation printers.

A laser printer is the newest and most common type of computer printer that rapidly produces high quality text, graphics, and pictures on plain paper. Laser printers employ a xerographic printing process

The first laser printer was introduced by IBM in the year 1975. Later Siemens and Xerox also started the production of laser printers. In 1984 HP come up with revolutionary LaserJet printers. The prices of laser printers have continued to drop after the arrival of HP in printer segment.
